The Department of Agricultural Economics was established in 1956 at the College of Agriculture in Parbhani to educate undergraduate students. In 1970, a post-graduate program leading to a M.Sc. (Agri.) degree was introduced, followed by the initiation of a Ph.D. program by coursework in Agricultural Economics in 1978. Graduates of the department hold various significant positions across the country, and the faculty is highly recognized at both the state and national levels.
The department is committed to strengthening Agricultural Economics in the State. The Department has been led by Dr. K.D. Rajmane, Dr. B.W. Ashturkar, Dr. H.N. Patil, Dr. N.D. Pawar, and Dr. T.G. Satpute. Recently, it was headed by Dr. K.V. Deshmukh and Dr. D.S. Perke. Currently, Dr. Sachin S. More is serving as the acting Head of the Department. The department is responsible for teaching, research, and extension activities in Agricultural Economics, particularly in the Marathwada region.
To improve the economic well-being of the society by providing educational opportunities to encourage lifelong learning and financial decision-making skills related to agriculture, natural resources, trade, market, institution, etc.
To strengthen agricultural economics research for providing economically viable, socially acceptable, and environmentally feasible policy options for science-led agricultural growth.
