Agronomy

Agronomy Instructional Farm

The Department of Agronomy has total area of 62.39 hectares out of which 13.57 hectares of area is allotted to the Department of Botany, Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry as well as to the Cotton Research Scheme for the research and allied purpose. Again 1.10 hectares of area is allotted to the Weed Science Centre for the purpose of research. Whereas 5.03 hectare area comes under farm buildings, farm roads, farm bunds and channels, etc. and Pingalgad nala occupies an area of 2.66 hectares. Besides, The main road (i.e. College of Agriculture to Central Nursery road) has passed covering an area of 2.21 hectares belonging to the Department of Agronomy

However, the area of the Department is divided in to three blocks i.e. ‘A’ Block, ‘B’ Block and ‘C’ Block. ‘A’ Block at the back side of the Head office reserved for Crop cafeteria, TMC projects, PG and Departmental experiments; ‘B’ Block is nominated to the block which is located in front of the Head office that is completely used for seed production only. and ‘C’ Block is located besides the Library and Horticultural joint nala which is allotted for seed production.

Farm Development

and development work under taken during the year 2007-09 with 2152 meters of total length of roads along with total length of drains measuring 5214 meters. Besides the leveling work of farm land on an area of 14.70 ha in B block is completed.

Seed Production Programme

The Department of Agronomy has total area of 62.39 hectares out of which 20.00 to 25.00 hectares of land is cultivated only for seed production every year for increasing the revenue receipt of the Department.

Crop Cafeteria

The crop cafeteria is grown every year in both seasons on about 1.0 acre area. In kharif season, 60 genotypes of major kharif crops and in rabi season, 30 genotypes of major rabi crops are taken in crop cafeteria.

The main objectives of crop cafeteria are identification of various crops grown in Marathwada region and their genotypes which are released by VNMKV, Parbhani and get acquainted by the UG & PG students. The crops grown in crop cafeteria is definitely help to identify the crops, their varieties, growth stages of the crop and various intercultural operation from sowing to harvesting in various crops by the undergraduate & post graduate students..
