Research

The department is engaged in descriptive, analytical, applied, quantitative, empirical and longitudinal research studies on important issues in agriculture.

  • Profitability of the agronomical crops, horticultural crops, farm enterprises, agro-base industries etc.
  • Impact assessment of technologies, Government schemes, Government policies, Climate change and variability, New institutional arrangements, Watershed Management, etc.
  • Market, Trade, Export, Import, Price dynamics, Credits / Loans, Natural resource economics, etc.

Department conducts research studies in these areas through externally funded projects and in house projects. These research projects are mainly implemented by faculties and post graduate students admitted in the department (M.Sc. and Ph.D.). The details of the research projects are given in Annexure-A

The outcomes of the departmental projects are released at state level during JOINT AGRESCO as Policy recommendations. During last five years, the department has recommended thirteen policy recommendations for the use of policy makers and farming community. The details are given in Annexure-B .

Scheme

The department has Cost of Cultivation Scheme funded by Government of Maharashtra.The scheme is being implemented through Department of Agricultural Economics, VNMKV, Parbhani since the year 1980-81. The objectives of the scheme are to collect scientific data on inputs and outputs of principle crops by cost accounting method and to estimate per hectare cost of cultivation and per quintal cost of production of principle crops. Total 96 full time staff position are in operation in the scheme. In all 39 crops are covered under the scheme. Data on input, output and prices are collected from 740 farmers spread across 74 villages of Marathwada region. The important recommendations on Minimum Support Prices of these crops are submitted to Agriculture Price Commission Cell, Mumbai for onward transmission to CACP,New Delhi.
